Designing projects
that outlast them.
ACE Trust designs and implements adaptive, partner-driven projects that strengthen structured trade by equipping smallholder farmers and MSMEs with the skills, infrastructure, and systems needed to respond to changing market and policy environments.
When it became clear that the Commodity Exchange could not become sustainable in the environment of the time, and that the early structural developments needed were not conducive to commercial investment, ACE Trust was established to design projects that development partners could fund.
Common to every project is the promotion of inclusive models — building the infrastructure and systems that a commercially sustainable exchange requires, while integrating farmers into the service delivery rather than leaving them outside it.
Infrastructure that
structured trade runs on.
- Thirteen warehouses built for farmer organisations.
- Rural warehouse models developed.
- The ACE Market Information System implemented.
- The ACE Marketing School developed.
- Access to finance modalities developed.
- The Warehouse Receipt System introduced.
- Access to input modalities introduced.
- Policies conducive to structured trade promoted.
Built to become
self-sustaining.
Inclusive by design
Every project promotes inclusive models, integrating farmers into service delivery as the commercial entities develop.
Aligned to strategy
ACE Trust must be in a position to decline projects that fall outside the strategy, ensuring joint projects are aligned with ACE objectives.
Designed to graduate
The Chithumba access-to-input model ran as an ACE Trust project from 2015 before being formalised as its own entity in 2020.
